Madeline and Friends the day before Spring shearing 2006.
Madeline the day after Spring Shearing 2006.
Willy Wonka's fiber, pretty isn't it! Chocolate brown! I like Chocolate!
Willy Wonka is a very sweet guy. No wonder he got to go first. Shearing Alpacas is safer for everyone when they are securely tied.
Time for shots. Annual vaccine and monthly de-worming. Alpacas have really tight skin!
Jenna gently holds Ciudad's head to the mat so he won't try to get up. If their head is down, they can't hurt anyone.
Jennifer and Rico have a serious talk about this shearing business.
Java in the chute. Llamas are shorn standing. They are larger than Alpacas and I think their pride wouldn't stand for being placed on a mat!
Miss. Daisy is so pretty, shorn or not - but take a look at those spots!
Rico Suave is awesome! He stood perfectly still, until Randy started to work on his legs. Llamas go for each other's legs when fighting! Makes sense!
A surprise visitor to the barn on Monday morning! It had been a rainy night, the outside door was left open and the light on . . . go figure!
This little treasure decided that it was nice enough to spend the rest of the day in the woods.
It's hard to realize how small a newborn fawn is, until you see one. This baby just HAD to go West, across the sheep paddock and into the woods.
One last look back before finding shade while it waits for mom's return.
Caroline is overwhelmed with the wool! We got 300 pounds back from the processor!
This Corriedale/Cotswold cross/50% Mohair Blend drafts as smooth as butter! It's a real pleasure to spin!
Ten pounds down, many to go! This yarn will make several sweaters, or a wonderful comforter! Very soft and lofty!
Lynn's Scottish Highland cows . . . grazing in Marci's backyard!
Spring Pasture on Shearing Day.
Music to The Lone Ranger plays in the background.
This explains their respect for fencing and why I don't have a garden yet.
Look at that shine! Way to go Patches. We'll make a nice rug from your wonderful wool!
She's called Patches because of the white patches under her eyes.
Randy Pinson busy at work.
They're always a bit shy without their wool on.
Ready for Summer, can't tell you who this is without wool.
No lambs this year, but this Momma Oppossum stayed close with her babies for several days. See how small they are when they can climb? Amazing!
We call this one "Spot". Can you guess why?
Rico Suave. as curious as ever!
Madeline's lambs, Zack, Jack and Jill, have awesome fiber!
Madeline belongs to Kaity. She's going to have to get busy spinning!
Spring 2004's lambs before Fall Shearing
We had been eagerly watching and anticipating the Fall shearing! Only 5 lambs were shorn this Fall.
Caroline brushing the Pumpkin (Angora Rabbit)
The Alpaca boys looking at the lambs through the fence/
Moon Rise over Wauka Mountain.
Lynn and Anna Baa's triplets, many years ago
A few days after an ice storm, Wauka Mountain still has ice on the norhern slopes.
Another moonrise over the mountain.
Early morning on a new pasture.
Daphne, Smudge and Fiona in the park.
Lynn and Jill the day the Senior Center came.
A great place to be, in the shade of the trees.
Rico when he was just 9 months old! This is his first day on the farm.
Misty enjoying the violets.
This is Sarah Katherine . . . Sadie Kate. She's one of two Registered Romney ewe lambs..
They've grazed everything in my yard!
Miss Daisy and Java, freshly shorn! Ears back tell us they are NOT happy!
Lambs of many colors! 2004's babies.
Ready to take on the world!
Spring Lambs from 2004 - Breakfast is over
Madeline and her lambs, Zack, Jack and Jill. Born April 21st, 3:15 pm. Madeline belongs to Kaity. Zack weighed 10 lbs.
The lambs are weighed when they are born and again 24 hours later to make sure they are getting enough to eat
Daphne and her lambs, Fiona and Smudge, born April 29, 6 am. Daphne belongs to Caroline. Fiona was a very small lamb.
It was a dark and stormy night . . .
Cinco de Mayo... or Full Moon!
Blossom, another first time mom, was in labor at 11:00 pm. With minor assistance, she delivered May, our first black girl lamb at 12:20 a.m. on May 2. May was a single, she weighed 11.5 lbs.
Delilah, Daphne's sister and another first time mom,
was obviously in labor when everyone went out for the day, May 5th, 2004. Delivered two beautiful lambs at 11:00 am, out in Missy the horse's pasture.A white girl weighing 7 lbs., and a black boy weighing 8.5 lbs. Sugar and Spice? Guess which one is who.
Molly was found in the Christmas Cow pasture, with these two girls in late afternoon. As you can see, the one on the left has a dark yellow color, this shows a bit of distress. Molly had them all by herself and wants to take care of them by herself too! Grace weighed 9.75 lbs., and Willow weighed 7.75 lbs. These are big lambs and we're very proud of her.
